Ukrainian roads won't become better to EURO 2012

10:52 AM
In Ukraine, for the final of the UEFA European Football Championship in 2012 not expected a significant improvement of roads.

This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister - Infrastructure Minister Borys Kolesnikov, at a national seminar of journalists of regional media.

"UEFA does not have strict requirements for roads. Length of Ukraine is 1500 km, and it is almost impossible to build roads for two years. We need material resources for this. There is no market for the creation of toll roads in Ukraine",- said Kolesnikov.

He noted that the cost of building roads in Ukraine, is much lower than in China. According to the minister, the cheapness of the building of roads is not favour  increasing the volume of work, because it is unprofitable to construction companies. In general, he noted that those roads are built for Euro 2012, is not actually connected with the championship, and sooner or later should have been built.

In addition, Kolesnikov cited the example of Spain, which, according to him, in the early 90's has built a toll highway. No one used it, while the Spaniards enjoyed the free roads. "If the Spaniards had no financial means to travel, the Ukrainians will get their not so fast", - said Kolesnikov.

He also said that next year the road in Ukraine would be built "exclusively through excise taxes."

"If all the companies that sell fuel, will conscientiously fulfill their obligations ... I think that Ukraine will receive new road infrastructure for 5-7 years ", - said Deputy Prime Minister.
