Yalta is a pearl of southern Crimean resorts. Yalta bordered on the west, north and east of Mount Ai-Petri and Nikita Yayla which protect the resort from the north winds.
According to legend, Greek sailors lost their way in a storm and have been searching the shore. At last they saw the land and cried out joyfully: "Gialos" (bank in Greek). So they decided to call the settlement based on the landing area. Yalta is unique combination of interesting architectural monuments, inscribed in a mountain landscape. Vacation in Yalta attracts lovers of warm Mediterranean climate. Modern Yalta is inevitably associated with the sun in summer, comfortable stay in hotels and boarding houses, sea coast, magnolias and palms.
The transformation of the fishing village into the fashionable resort of European level occurred in the first half of the XIX century. After the royal Romanov family acquired land in Yalta area for the villas and palaces. There are Livadia and Massandra palaces with beautiful parks, "Kichkine", "Dulber " and "Ai-Todor" , the "Royal" path from Livadia to Gaspra. In 1911 was completed the construction of palace of the Emir of Bukhara, built Sobor of St. Alexander Nevsky, Church of St. John Chrysostom, Church of St. Nicholas, a Catholic Church and the Armenian Church. In Yalta, recreated and worked Anton Chekhov, and Lesia Ukrainka, L.N. Tolstoy, A.M. Gorky, painters I.K. Aivazovsky and architect N.P. Krasnov, the creator of Russian cinema A.A. Khanzhonkov and physician of the royal family S.P. Botkin.
House of Anton Chekhov became a museum, which storage contains more then 13 000 items of Chekhov's life and creative work. During first visit to Yalta Lesya Ukrainka stopped first at the hotel "Marino" and then moved to the street Catherininskaya 8. There's now an Lesya Ukrainka museum telling about her life and work in Crimea.
Livadia is one of the most beautiful corners of the Crimean South Coast, where palace buildings are in perfect harmony with the greenery of the ancient park.
This implies an excellent all year round park, beautiful view of Yalta, a beautiful Livadia Palace, the creation of a talented architect N. Krasnov and Russian builders. They have created a miracle which admires people for centuries.
In Livadia palace from 4 to 11 February 1945 was held Yalta Conference - meeting of the leaders of three allied states - the USSR, the USA and the UK, for addressing issues of World War II and the postwar world.
 Holy Cross Church is one of the masterpieces saved after later reconstructions of the palace . When designing a church Monigetti turned to the Byzantine style, which was widely distributed in similar buildings of the middle and second half of the XIX century. The source of his inspiration was also the Georgian architecture of churches. Graceful, like a toy, the church, decorated with wood carvings, stained glass, fascinated by the cosiness and beauty. The reconstruction of the church in 1910-1911 years managed the artist A. Slavtsev. He is the author of the mosaic picture above the door which depicts the angel of the Lord.It was rewarded by the studio of Arts of Petersburg Academy. "Who visit Livadia, of course will see the richness of its tropical plants, fountains, streams, flower beds," - wrote in "Essays on the Crimea" the writer of the XIX century Eugene Markov. Follow his advice and see yourself this peculiar corner of the Southern Crimea.
Yalta Travel AttractionsModern decorations of Yalta are famous promenade, perfect beaches, the institute of viticulture and winemaking Magarach, Production Association Massandra, hotel Oreanda with romantic Espanyol. Nikitinski Botanical Garden, Glade of Fairy Tales and the highest in Ukraine waterfall Wuchang-Su attract tourists from all over the world. 7 km above Yalta to the left of the road leaves trail to the base of the highest waterfall in the Crimea - "Wuchang-Su" (Flying Water). Since 2005 Yalta hosts Prime Yalta Rally - a lap of European Rally Cup.
Lenin embankment is the central promenade of Yalta, one of the oldest streets in the city. The embankment is surrounded by palm trees. There is also a favorite meeting place for young people. It is monument of Lenin sheltered by palm trees. Yalta Seaside Park is one of the most beautiful parks in the Crimea. Its territory extends along the western coast of Yalta bay for two kilometers and is a natural extension of the Yalta embankment. Yusupov Palace Park is a monument of landscape architecture. It is a creation of renowned gardener Carl Kebaha, spread on an area of 16.5 hectares. It collected more than 200 species of ornamental trees and shrubs. Summer heat become cooler by numerous fountains of the palace, fueled by mountain streams.
