Ukrainians see better future for their children in European integration, poll finds

12 Apr 2013 1:37 PM
Almost half of Ukrainians believe that a better future for their children or grandchildren will be in Ukraine, which would be more integrated to Europe. These are the findings of a survey conducted by the Sociological Group "Rating”.

Ukrainians"Almost half of those surveyed believe that a better future for their children or grandchildren will be in Ukraine, which would be more integrated into Europe, but a third - in Ukraine, which would be more integrated into Russia, the CIS, and almost a quarter - undecided," the report said.

The poll also found that Ukrainians would like to live in the EU, despite the fact that they visited CIS countries more often. For example, 43% of those surveyed would like to live in Europe, compared to 45% who would not like; 30% would like to live in Russia (61%), 21% would like to live in Belarus (67%).

Only 12% of those polled had experience of visiting over the past 5 years the European Union, including 1% visited it many times, 4% - a few times, 7% - visited only once.

However, the experience of visiting the CIS is more extensive - a quarter have been there for the past 5 years, including 3% - many times, 12% - a few times, 10% - visited only once.

Sociologists have established a direct correlation: the more often people visited Europe, the more they wanted to live there. As for Russia, such dependence is fewer. The more often people visited Europe, the higher support for Ukraine's accession to the EU of them.
