Cypriot Spyros Marangos written apology for the charges in the purchase of Euro 2012

8:13 AM
UEFA issued a formal statement about the allegations of Cypriot Marangos in buying the right to host Euro 2012 by Ukraine and considers the matter closed.

The Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus closed the case, which began as a result of allegations of former official of the local football federation Spyros Marangos relative illegality of the UEFA Executive Committee decision of 2007 to hold Euro 2012 in Ukraine and Poland.

Management of European football welcomes this decision of the Cyprus authorities, stressing that it is very pleased that the investigation did not reveal any facts and evidence supporting the Marangos’ charges, and all his allegations were unfounded.

Marangos brought his written apology, UEFA has no plans to prosecute the Cypriot.

In the end of last year in German and Italian media appeared information that Spyros Marangos accused Ukraine of bribing UEFA in order to obtain the right to host the finals of Euro 2012.

Cypriot promised to provide shortly direct evidence of bribery of officials of UEFA, and even told how to implement the transfer of a bribe, but have not provided any evidence.

29 October 2010 UEFA has filed a lawsuit to the Swiss court against Marangos.
